World’s first $10 million sanitation development impact bond launches
Announcing the first ever Development Impact Bond (DIB) in WASH. The Cambodia Rural Sanitation DIB—a partnership between USAID, Stone Family Foundation, and iDE—will provide the funding for iDE to continue to expand our Sanitation Marketing Scale-Up program to achieve open defecation free status for 1600 villages. The unique, innovative nature of the DIB, designed with the assistance of Social Finance, enables flexibility in program design to address the challenging environments and reach vulnerable populations who still do not own a latrine in five provinces.

Scale with quality impact
The goal for iDE’s WASH programs is not just to rack up numbers, but to aim for the greatest possible improvement in people’s lives. We do this by ensuring well-designed, aspirational products lead to satisfied customers who then influence their neighbors to adopt the same practices. We track our progress not only by counting how many sales are made, but also the impact that these products are having in reducing sickness, time spent in household labor, and overall well-being. Cambodia Learnings
One of the keys to success of any sales transformation project is the receptivity of the leadership. Hands down, iDE Cambodia has been one of the best clients we have ever worked with, which has been central to the performances achieved in the SMSU projects over the last four years.
